Competitive Soccer Information
Announcing BOYS COMPETITIVE PLAYER INFORMATION
Tryouts are Sunday, January 21 at the Humboldt State University Fieldhouse.
HYSL wishes to share with you the following statement, issued by Mad River Youth Soccer League, regarding changes to our joint Competitive Program. Additionally, we would like to preface the following with a few brief comments:
For several years, HYSL has not housed a girls' competitive program. In 2017, HYSL merged the boys competitive program, known best as the Humboldt Breakers, with Mad River's competitive MRU program and now this program has decided to transition to be housed under AC Samoa. With these developments, HYSL will be operating solely as a RECREATIONAL program. This move will allow us to focus on our full resources on the over 800 players and 175 coaches that volunteer for our program.
MRU Competitive Program Changes
The Mad River United (MRU) competitive program will no longer add new teams to the club. Existing MRU teams will continue until they age out of the program in the next few years.
Players younger than the 2003 birth year who wish to play competitive soccer are encouraged to join the AC Samoa Soccer Club, which has a professionally licensed and experienced staff of coaches and trainers. AC Samoa has the following options for serious, committed soccer players in Humboldt county:
Players born in 2004, 05, or 06 who wish to play on a competitive travel team should attend AC Samoa Spring Tryouts on Sunday, January 21st at the HSU Fieldhouse from noon until 2 pm. Please bring cleats, shin guards, and drinking water and have a parent or guardian present to sign in. To reserve a spot for AC Samoa youth tryouts please create an account and register on the AC Samoa website www.acsamoa.com.
For players born in 2007, 2008, 2009, & 2010, Super Futsal is being offered. This is a local (non-travel) program designed to improve individual technique and attacking creativity. Super Futsal will start in late February and meet twice a week for six weeks. To register, visit www.acsamoa.com
Mad River Youth Soccer and Humboldt Youth Soccer will continue to offer strong recreational programs for ages four to 18, but will not create new competitive teams under Mad River United.
